A Fabrication Project: Wooden Portraits

Lia, Nat, Sid and J

For my final fabrication class exhibition, I wanted to create a reinterpretation of female beauty in the form of 4 wooden portraits. With elements of nature and an emphasis on time, I shot and printed my photographs onto wooden planks and 3D modeled and printed elements and combined them with natural materials to create exaggerated features. There was an a video featuring homages to artists and visual media I was inspired by throughout my process. I wanted to include an homage to Wangechi Mutu and her work specifically, hence the written words on the back of each panel.
